01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

When you want a satisfying meal at an unpretentious neighbourhood Chinese-style restaurant, the half fried rice and ramen set is an easy place to start. Kouraiken's half fried rice and ramen set pairs a bowl of thin noodles in a light, old-fashioned soy sauce broth with moist, well-seasoned fried rice. Though billed as a half portion, the fried rice is generously served, and the combination is a lunchtime staple that many customers order.

Among the noodle dishes, shiitake soba stands out: its glossy, savoury broth and springy shiitake mushrooms pair well with the noodles. There are plenty of other choices, too, including curry ramen, stamina ramen and gomoku soba, a mixed-ingredient noodle dish.

For a substantial rice-based meal, the stir-fry set meals include hoikoro, with pleasantly crisp cabbage, as well as yakiniku and reba-nira stir-fry. The generous portions also make these dishes a good match for a bottle or draft beer at dusk.

Tables make up most of the seating, and the relaxed atmosphere suits anything from a solo meal to a group outing. The restaurant opens for lunch and dinner, with a break between the two service periods, and accepts cash only.
